These Two Pennies Sold for a Whopping $500,000 at Auction

You remember the old saying: "Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck!"

Well, it turned out to be true for the owners of these pretty pennies.

In Denver, Colorado, two cents sold in a public auction for $500,000.

Of course, they weren't just any pennies but rare coins quite valuable to collectors.

At left, the 1792 Penny is so old, it hardly resembles today's penny at all

Heritage Auctions says it was lost for 130 years before being found in England and selling for $211,500.

Fetching even more—$282,000, to be exact—was the 1943 Lincoln penny,

Which is worth so much because it was accidentally struck on bronze.

Excuse us while we search our pockets and couch cushions!
